The Laboratory of Space Systems and Optomechanics (LASSO) at the University of Arizona is seeking motivated graduate students and postdoctoral candidates in Optics, Physics, Engineering, and related areas to join our dynamic group and contribute to our ongoing projects and international collaborations. Our areas of interest include precision laser interferometry, cavity optomechanics, inertial sensing, quantum optics, and space technologies. LASSO’s research spans technology development for ground‑ and space‑based gravitational‑wave observatories such as LIGO and LISA, as well as NASA efforts for future geodesy space missions, among other areas.

LASSO welcomes inquiries from postdoctoral candidates, who are encouraged to contact Dr. Felipe Guzman directly. We also offer opportunities for graduate students. For University of Arizona students, LASSO is currently looking to take on new graduate students, and undergraduate students interested in our research topics are welcome to reach out and suggest a meeting time, ideally during office hours.

Students outside of the University of Arizona who wish to pursue graduate studies in the group must first apply and be admitted to the College of Optical Sciences or another graduate program at the University of Arizona, as direct contact with faculty does not affect the university’s formal admissions process.

Details on applying can be found through:

The College of Optical Sciences Graduate Admissions

The Department of Physics Graduate Admissions

The Department of Astronomy & Steward Observatory Graduate Admissions

For international students, please note that most graduate schools in the U.S. operate on a standard admissions cycle, typically involving applications in late fall or early winter, acceptance notifications in the spring, and positions beginning with the fall semester of the next academic year; applications outside this period are usually considered in the following cycle.
