Museum of Optics

  • John Greivenkamp is the founder and curator of the Museum of Optics at the College of Optical Sciences at the University of Arizona.  The collection began in 2003 and now holds more than 1000 antique and historic telescopes, monoculars, binoculars, microscopes, lenses and cameras.  The earliest pieces date from the 1600s. The Museum of Optics was dedicated in 2011.
  • The Museum of Optics is displayed throughout the College of Optical Sciences and is open to the public.  In addition to recording the long history of optical engineering and optical instrument design, the Museum of Optics is one of the major educational outreach programs of the College and attracts many visitors to the College.
