JOB DESCRIPTION: DataRay is seeking a technically adept and motivated Jr. Application Engineer, responsible for providing technical support for DataRay’s products by solving problems, troubleshooting and working with customers to guide them to the best possible product solutions for their applications and experiments.
LOCATION: Monterey, CA
STATUS: Full-time/Exempt
STARTING SALARY: $75,000 to $85,000. This salary range represents a good faith estimate of what a candidate might expect for this role, which considers a wide variety of factors such as location, experience, training, qualifications, and DataRay’s needs, as well as other considerations permitted by law. As a small business, please be aware that at DataRay it is generally uncommon for new hires to start at the upper end of the range for a given position.

DUTIES:

  • Build, assemble, and calibrate complex optical assemblies to ensure quality and functionality
  • Conduct application-level technical investigations, including replicating and diagnosing customer issues and proposing solutions
  • Provide email and phone support to a worldwide customer base
  • Design and perform experiments to use as case studies to aid in product development
  • Assist in the design and implementation of custom solutions to meet unique customer requirements
  • Contribute to new product research and development, including prototyping, testing, and documentation
  • Participate in customer site visits for technical support, demonstrations, or system evaluations (occasional travel required)
  • Collaborate closely with internal engineering, production, and sales teams, as well as with external customers, to foster technological advancement and contribute to strategic growth efforts

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Optics, Physics, or a related engineering field, or equivalent work experience
  • Experience using lasers in laboratory or work environment

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Work experience in an optics/photonics environment
  • Working knowledge of general photonics and/or beam profiling
  • Work experience with optical tables and optical mechanical assemblies
  • Work experience aligning lasers and lenses

APPLICABLE KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Ability to read, write, and interpret documents such as procedure manuals, routine reports, and correspondence
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers and at team meetings
  • Ability to solve practical problems and with limited availability information
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to multitask effectively
