We are looking for an exceptional Senior Manufacturing Engineer: Opto-Mechanical Metrology to provide overall metrology engineering leadership and support to optical system fabrication.  In this role you will provide independent review of the whole product development process (PDP), steer improvement efforts and drive process development and improvements.  In addition, an important aspect of your role will be to interact with technical teams to provide sound technical support.

What you will do is:

  • Responsible to define complex opto-mechanical metrology budgets based on the attributes to be tested and the capability of the test equipment being designed or utilized.
  • Define, design, and develop the metrology solutions to reach the optical performances with good yields and accuracy when operated by regularly skilled technicians.
  • Document the metrology processes and train the manufacturing engineers and technicians on using the solutions.
  • Document and train the manufacturing engineers in setting up and duplicating/troubleshooting the metrology solutions that will often include optical, mechanical, and electrical components and sub-systems.
  • Work closely with the design and manufacturing engineering teams during the Product Development Process (PDP) from concept, design to production phases in providing input for manufacturability (DfX) and pFMEA, focusing on the metrology aspects.
  • Implement automated data collection plans and SPC to reduce defects.
  • Effectively communicate and identify issues during engineering builds and propose metrology solutions to improve product manufacturing, yields, and quality.
  • Diagnose and debug issues in existing manufacturing processes or equipment with corrective actions implemented in a timely manner.

What you bring, along with your curiosity:

  • A great attitude: willing to learn, work independently and in a team, provide technical leadership while understanding constraints from different parts of the organization such as timelines or manufacturability.
  • B.S. degree or higher in Optical Engineering, Optics or Physics.
  • Strong communication skills to communicate clearly and efficiently across a range of technical subject areas with a broad slate of partners, including management, peers, and suppliers.
  • Proven experience in development and high-volume deployment of opto-mechanical modules.
  • Experience in optical instrumentation and data collection & automation, familiar with tools like Matlab, Python, C, VB or LabVIEW or equivalent.
  • Strong optical simulation experience and system modeling experience, familiar with ray tracing tools such as Zemax, CodeV etc. and perform optical simulation and experimental lab validation. Alternatively, can accept solid experience with analysis using Matlab, MathCad, Excel, etc… using beam propagation formulas instead of Zemax.
  • Strong quantitative data analysis abilities, using JMP, Matlab, or equivalent tools and familiar with relevant algorithm for image analysis and data analysis.
  • Experience in high volume manufacturing, familiar with 6 sigma, P/T, design of experiment, failure analysis, risk management and system trade off study.
  • Strong capability in design, setup and execution of sophisticated optical systems.
  • Experience with SolidWorks, SAP (ERP) and laser safety is desired.
