The Simulation and Analysis Branch, RVES seeks to hire a mid level, DR-02 Space Mission Systems Engineer in Albuquerque, NM.

A primary objective of the Air Force Research Laboratory’s Space Vehicles Directorate (AFRL/RV) is the design, development and operations of spacecraft supporting cutting-edge, on-orbit experiments advancing and demonstrating critical space technologies. AFRL/RV is aggressively moving to adopt modern Digital Engineering and Model-Based System Engineering (DE/MBSE) methodologies for the design and development of these space systems. To support this move to DE/MBSE, AFRL/RV is standing up an MBSE Corps; i.e. a team of systems engineers dedicated to applying MBSE to the development of AFRL/RV’s newest space experiment missions. AFRL/RV is seeking self-motivated early career engineers interested in joining our MBSE Corps. As a member of the MBSE Corp, you will have opportunity to work with experienced spacecraft systems engineers potentially leading to supporting spaceflight operations.

Roles, responsibilities and duties of the position include:

  • Lead system-of-systems modeling and analysis efforts supporting proposed and executed space flight experiment planning and development.
  • Perform modeling and simulation to assess space experiment concepts and support the development of experiment objectives, technical baselines, and system requirements.
  • Use digital systems engineering tools to design, document, and test space flight vehicles leveraging cutting edge technology.
  • Learn SysML (System Modeling Language) and organizational style standards and apply knowledge to comprehensive design projects.
  • Learn AFSIM (Advanced Framework for Simulation, Integration and Modeling) scripting and software, and apply knowledge to developing space experiment scenarios supporting on-orbit planning and CONOPS.
  • Lead/support the development of Software/Hardware-in-the-Loop simulation environments integrating existing spacecraft command and control ground systems.
  • Apply systems engineering techniques to assist in identifying and resolving technical space systems issues.
Prepare technical data in the form of written reports, technical papers, and presentations for inter-service and professional audiences.
