About Us:
Airy Optics, Inc. spun out of the University of Arizona's Wyant College of Optical Sciences in 2016. We build and design polarization ray tracing and analysis software. Airy also provides engineering services, helping clients solve system-level polarization problems in areas such as next-generation AR/VR displays. This internship is for graduate students in optics, physics, or engineering. Interns will work alongside experienced optical engineers on projects gaining practical skills in optical design, polarization ray tracing, and in modeling how optical components affect system performance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Help develop and maintain algorithms, using good software practices for planning, writing and
maintaining code.
● Create worked examples that show specific features and polarization analysis capabilities.
● Support Airy Optics engineering services projects gaining exposure to real optical design
problems.
Qualifications:
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Optics, Physics, or Mathematics
● Currently enrolled in a graduate program in a related field
● Optical design skills
● Linear algebra & polarization knowledge
● Ability to work independently
● Strong organizational skills
Preferred
- Experience with optical design software such as Zemax, CodeV, LightTools, or FRED
● Completed OPTI 584 and OPTI 586, or equivalent polarization coursework
● Experience with Mathematica (training will be provided)
● Working knowledge of Python
● Experience with Rust
