A Day in the Life:

As a Sr Associate I, Optomechanical Engineer - MS&T, you will be trusted to help develop manufacturing processes for new and existing products within the manufacturing plant.  As a key manufacturing representative, you will have several essential responsibilities including:

  • Providing technical and manufacturing expertise in the field of opto-mechanical alignment, test/metrology, and manufacturing within Alcon's broad ophthalmic instrumentation portfolio.
  • Supporting development of optomechanical manufacturing processes working closely with R&D, manufacturing, and quality to produce efficient, effective and innovative engineering and / or scientific solutions.
  • Developing fixtures, procedures, and work instructions related to new manufacturing processes.
  • Writing and executing validations for new components processes, and equipment.
  • Leading or participating in design reviews to ensure designs can be manufactured to specifications, yield, reliability and cost.
  • Maintaining and continuously improving quality systems and regulatory compliance to local, state and global standards requirements.
  • Ensuring that the highest quality products are manufactured safely, and efficiently at the lowest possible costs.
  • Continuously improving productivity, processes, costs and returns on assets managed.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO ALCON:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Equivalent years of directly related experience (or high school +10 yrs; Assoc.+6 yrs; M.S.+0 yrs)
  • The ability to fluently read, write, understand and communicate in English
  • 2 Years of Relevant Experience

PREFERRED SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience in Medical device, consumer, automotive, and aerospace industry preferred.
  • Experience in new product introductions/manufacturing/ manufacturing science and technology/technical development/R&D.
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes and related process equipment.
  • Working knowledge of applied statistics, quality systems and regulatory requirements across multiple health authorities.
  • Experience in executing process validation, transfer of products from R&D into manufacturing, and working on multidisciplinary teams that include all functions in the manufacturing environment.
  • Specific experience in opto-mechanical design, design for manufacturability (DFM) optical alignment and bonding.
  • Ability to critique designs for their manufacturability and provide feedback to the team.
  • Ability to generate and maintain test and assembly procedures, PFMEA’s, train technicians, set-up production lines, perform time studies, and design fixtures and assembly aids to facilitate smooth and efficient manufacturing.
  • Experience working in a cross-functional environment (e.g. multi-site, technical development, other functions).
