Schwiegerling passed away April 5, 2023. This website will be maintained as it was at the time of his passing. <a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.optics.arizona.edu\/news\/memoriam-james-t-schwiegerling\" target=\"_blank\">Please read Dr. Schwiegerling&#8217;s &#8220;In Memorian&#8221; released by the Wyant College.<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I received my B.S. and M.S. degrees from the University of Rochester (Yes! The other school) in Optics in 1990 and 1991, respectively. Upon completion, I left the cold cloudy climes of upstate New York and headed for a sunnier (and much hotter) place: Tucson, Arizona. I completed my dissertation entitled &#8220;Visual Performance Prediction Using Schematic Eye Models&#8221; and received my Ph.D. in Optical Sciences at the <a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/www.arizona.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\">University of Arizona<\/a> in 1995. Since then, I spent several years working as an Assistant Research Scientist, and as a Professor with the <a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/www.eyes.arizona.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\">Department of Ophthalmology<\/a> at the University of Arizona. In August of 2010, I became a Professor in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.optics.arizona.edu\/\">College of Optical Sciences<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>Current Research Interests<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Corneal topography and optical properties of the eye.<\/li>\n<li>Wavefront sensing of aberration in the eye.<\/li>\n<li>Schematic eye modeling.<\/li>\n<li>Visual performance following refractive surgery.<\/li>\n<li>Ophthalmic Instrumentation.<\/li>\n<li>Computational Photography<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dr. James T.
